School curriculum policy
The department abides by the Cambridge Pathway framework. The department will start as a Cambridge Primary section and will use the CP framework as a reference. Other resources such as teacher guides, schemes of work, and progression grids will also be utilized to ensure complete understanding and implementation of the curriculum. Students will go through constant assessments and evaluations, primarily formative. At the beginning of the school year, students will take a diagnostic test to determine their strengths and weaknesses. Starting from the second year of establishing the department, CEM will be used as a diagnostic tool. Four assessment periods span over each term in accordance with the Ministry of Education guidelines. In April of each year, a progression test from Cambridge will be conducted to measure students’ progressions during the year. The data will be uploaded to the website to accurately identify the students’ needs and cross-reference the results throughout the years.
School language policy:
English is to be used as a first language in all types of communication with students in and out of the classroom, among staff members and with parents. Arabic will be used as a second language in teaching subjects such as Arabic and Social Studies. Special activities, events and competitions will be dedicated for Arabic. English as a second language will be used as it is easier for second-language learners and eventually matches with the requirements for English as a Second Language subject in the IGCSEs. For students struggling with English, pull-out programs, one-on-one instruction and other intervention plans will be implemented. The first plan will be developed after the diagnostic test and the second after the first month’s assessment. The plan will be reviewed and modified by the teachers and supervised by the HOD.
